This is my review of what I really thought of the Best Grooms Speech by John Wilson.

I want to help others that are in the same position as I was.
I will be clear from the start. This is my unbiased insider opinion, in this blog I want to tell you all about the good and bad points. I will give you all the necessary information you will need before getting your hands on your own copy.

So what is it all about?
The Best Grooms Speech is a very informative ebook all about how to write funny wedding speeches. It is designed for those of us that are completely lost and do not know where to begin.
It has a step by step guide that removes all of the complications and worries, from how to craft your grooms speech, right through to wedding etiquette and who should be paying for what on the big day.
Last summer I was faced with exactly the same problem. We had been planning our wedding day for over a year and I had completely run out of speech ideas. I hated public speaking.
“According to studies, people’s number 1 fear is public speaking… number 2 is death.”
The pressure of standing up in front of all my friends and family and having to be funny and entertaining, but not rude and offensive, was all too much to face.
I wanted a speech structure but I didn’t know where to start. I came across John Wilson’s the Best Grooms Speech and all my problems were solved.
Why is it is so ground breaking?
The Best Grooms Speech is revolutionary as it breaks down each part from The Opening to The body (the middle) and The Conclusion. This way you are able to clearly structure your speech jokes.
You can easily manage who and what you are going to talk about and when to make the all-important killer jokes that will have your wedding guests reeling in laughter.
In The Opening of your grooms speech, John teaches us that it is very important to sound enthusiastic and be involved. You may be tired and stressed but you cannot show it, as this is when you are setting the entire mood for your speech.
You may want to open with a witty joke or comment, but as the groom you don’t really have to introduce yourself, but you can begin by welcoming your friends and family.
If you are very nervous, which is to be expected on your wedding day, it is always good to embrace it and admit it to your guests. For example,
“Welcome everybody… as expected I am very nervous and excited… so please excuse me if I make a few mistakes. Considering this is my Wedding day, it is the last chance I have to talk independently and I couldn’t let the opportunity slip”
I found this to be an excellent icebreaker when drafting my wedding speech and it also set the tone for the humour.

In The Body, it is important to set your speech structure by formulating a series of points. I found that I only had the time to cover a few topics so I kept my stories short but to the point and didn’t get caught up in too much detail.
This way I was able to build the speech to a climax with lots of little jokes and punch lines. This kept my wedding guest’s attention as they were waiting for the next funny anecdote.
It is also a good idea to include a funny marriage or love quotation but make sure the ones you use are relevant and appropriate. There are many humorous examples in the book to choose from.
I included a quote from Bon Jovi that went down a treat. As for his secret to staying married: “My wife tells me that if I ever decide to leave, she is coming with me.”
The Conclusion. You should end by offering a toast to the Bride and the Maids of Honour or to your family and friends that are present. You should be prepared to have some slightly different toasts ready as someone else may have beaten you to it.
There is a whole section of examples dedicated to all kinds of different wedding toasts and quotations. You may want to toast the Father of the Groom or the Mother of the Bride.
I found this one particularly good for my speech. A little cheesy but my wife loved it.
“Here’s to the prettiest, here’s to the wittiest, and here’s to the truest of all who are true. Here’s to the nearest one, here’s to the sweetest one, and here’s to them, all in one – here’s to you.”
So what are the bad points of the Best Groom Speech?
As with all my reviews I do like to be honest and mention both the good and bad as nothing is ever free from any imperfections.
- John has very UNORTHODOX methods in how to write bride groom speeches. I can see many of you being quite over whelmed with some of the techniques John uses to form a funny captivating grooms speech template.
- You are not going to write the speech in 5 minutes flat after reading the book. You will have to put in a bit of time and effort and really think about how to piece together your speech.
And of course the good points.
- The book actually makes for an enjoyable read. John’s experience in writing hundreds of bride and grooms speeches over the years really shines through. You get a real sense of support as you put all of your ideas together.
- This book isn’t just for the complete novice. Even if you have written a wedding grooms speech before, there are lots of points that that even the more experienced of us can include and relate to.
- You have a lot of information to refer to in the book. This includes; Confident public speaking, Crafting your Groom Speech, Funny Wedding Quotations, Love and Wedding Quotations, The Bachelor Party and Wedding Toasts.
- There is also a Bonus ebook Wedding Etiquette Secrets. This is a hugely informative book that covers subjects that may have easily been forgotton, both for the Bride and the Groom.
- You have the option to upgrade to 10 Ready to use professionally written Groom Templates. These templates only require name changes and can be used exactly as they are.
Overall what did I think?
Best Grooms Speech by John Wilson was in my opinion, the best groom speeches example ebook I have read to date.
